Around Our Community
Tuesday evening a remembrance service was held in our chapel in honor of infant & pregnancy loss awareness day. Sarah’s Heart organized a beautiful & meaningful celebration for parents who lost their precious little ones. If you know anyone that has been impacted by this particular loss there is also a remembrance run being held on October 26th by our friends over at Shine On. We are grateful to see our chapel continue to be a place of healing for all.
What I put in your hands I can never lose.
Jess Lowry, Executive Director, Sunset Ridge Collective
In our 11:00 service this week, Hunter shared a line from a song called “Everything’s in Your Hands.” That line struck a chord deep within my heart as the question from Dick Ihfe this week was stirring—what is God asking us to set down?
What is wrestling within us that God asks us to unfurl our clenched fists and release to God?
The answer, while not easy, seems to be quite simple to Jesus—everything.
Can you imagine it? The way it might feel to commit every single part of our lives to God? To live and operate in the belief that you have a part in bringing the good that is coming to fruition and that God might want to include you in what God is doing every day to make that reality?
What if we taught a classroom full of students and did so to glorify God?
What if we drove on the highway and did so to glorify God?
What if we engaged in relationship with other people to glorify God? We remembered, as Dick reminded us on Sunday that we are all made in the image of God and we honored that “God image” in each person we met?
Or grocery shopped, or engaged on social media, or sold Coca-Cola or coffee or used cars all committed to doing so in a way that glorified God?
Is this not the call? To give everything to follow Jesus Christ? And the grace is this—we don’t have to do it on our own strength because as you and I know, that is impossible.
I wonder if sometimes we make it all so complex, when God is only asking us to surrender and let God handle the rest. Ah, but if only surrendering were easy…it’s not easy for me, and my guess is that it may not be for you, either.
But remember—what you put in God’s hands, you can never lose.
I invite you to join me this week in committing your actions, your words, and your moments to God. Each morning use the prayer Scott taught us—God, if you would, include me today? Throughout the day it might help to use the doorways you cross through to remind you to commit your next task, or meeting, or conversation to God.
I can’t wait to see you a little bit lighter this week.
Love-Jess
