Shock and Awe
Riley Stirman
In my sermon on Sunday, I said that I think all of Christian life is summed up in three little words found in Matthew 6.
How much more.
If we look around at the world and find any comfort, any love, any joy, how much more can we expect from the God who created all things?
I believe that the best possible response to the God we serve is wonder. I believe that we need to be more in the habit of opening our eyes wide in awe at the works of God's hands. Even in the midst of drudgery, monotony, and boredom, I think we can still practice awe.
This week, I invite you to say a prayer of awe, to reflect on how much more our God truly is. I recommend the words of one of my favorite hymns, “How Great Thou Art”, as a good starting place:
Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder -
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Consider the world around you. Dwell on rolling thunder and crashing waves and green forests. Marvel at the works of his hands. And may these three little words awaken in you a burning hope for what is yet to come:
How much more.
Around the Community
Our playground is getting a makeover! We have some exciting programming coming up for our children in the next couple of months, and we are working to ensure that our spaces are safe and accessible for them. Stay up-to-date with our social media and newsletter communications to learn more about what’s coming!
The Women’s Wednesday Fellowship (WWF) enjoyed a fun time together last week! This group meets once a month to write cards and spend time together over a meal. If you’d like to participate, meet in the fellowship hall on the last Wednesday of every month.

God, we gather in gratitude, thankful for the ways you seek to revive us! Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts work together to praise you in this hour. Grant your Spirit to move our hearts and inspire each of us to share your steadfast love with all whom we encounter. Help us to join in giving only what is good, not only today, but every day. Amen
