A Childlike Faith
Every week I have the opportunity to spend time with young people who are growing, learning, and discovering both the world around them and God’s place in their lives…Their openness challenges me to think about my own faith.
Being Sent…Here?
Sometimes all it takes is another person's perspective to help you see your own life in a new way.
Shaping the Future Together
Two weeks ago, we celebrated the 77th anniversary of Sunset Ridge Church together. As I looked around the sanctuary that morning, I was struck by the observation that for so many of us, this church feels relatively new.
The Woman of Proverbs 31
This missive is about the archetypal woman of Proverbs 31 and it is being written by a man. Notice the irony? And men wonder why many women classify us as Neanderthals even though we think we are the perfect blend of Brad Pitt and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. I am neither of those. I am more like a cross between John Pinette and Jake Tapper; but I am a heart transplant recipient who received the heart of a young woman thirteen years ago. So, I feel a distinct kinship with women, and I harbor a recurring call to the women’s shoe department at Macy’s. Here goes nothing!
Around the Table, Across the World
I was alone this Mother’s Day, and I was grateful. Why? Because my son and husband—Colton and Todd—are currently in Japan enjoying their first trip outside the country. They keep in touch, and occasionally they send photos of a touristy landmark, but more often my guys send candid pictures of people and food. There are bowls of ramen from the back corner of a gas station. A vegetarian feast of Nepali food shared in Kobe. Neapolitan pizza delivered to their narrow little apartment tucked into an alley of Kyoto.
