Agape Ministry, located at 123 Lanark, serves the needy in the northeast part of San Antonio through food and clothing distribution programs, as well as by offering emergency assistance. Our church supports this neighborhood ministry through monthly and annual monetary donations, food and clothing drives, individual contributions of food and clothing, and through annual monetary donations by the SSR Foundation. In addition, volunteers work at Agape, especially during the Second Saturday Clothing Sale held each month. Bill Wards coordinates our involvement with Agape.
Austin Graduate School of Theology is a seminary associated with the Churches of Christ and in conversation with all who confess Jesus is Lord. Austin Grad’s mission is to promote knowledge, understanding, and practice of the Christian faith by equipping Christians and churches for service in the Kingdom of God. Our church gives financial support to this school and benefits from regular education seminars from visiting instructors.
Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM) is a cooperative ministry in downtown San Antonio supported by over 65 member churches of all denominations. CAM’s mission is to provide immediate, temporary assistance and encouragement to individuals in crisis, helping them become self-sufficient. Our church gives financial support to CAM, and our members help with periodic clothing and food drives, individual donations of clothing and food, as well as regular volunteering. Members should contact Randy Rutland to learn about how to get involved at CAM.
We work through referrals from social service agencies to provide limited, short-term utility assistance to those in need.
Community Outreach Events
Community Outreach Events are designed to welcome the community onto our grounds and into our church building through seasonal celebrations. A committee of volunteers is formed to oversee each event, and other volunteers are needed to serve as greeters and/or workers. Contact Scott Stephens or the church office for more information on our community outreach events.
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds simple, affordable housing in partnership with families in need. Each fall, Sunset Ridge joins with other area churches as part of the Ecumenical Genesis group to build a Habitat house. Members participate by working on a construction/landscaping crew, providing meals for the crew, and contributing to the special fund. Members are asked to contact Fred Bergman for more information about Habitat for Humanity volunteer opportunities.
